The following story comes to us from team leader Lucy with our team in Boise, ID:
God knows what will speak to the heart. We just try to be a willing vessel to say what He wants us to say. Today, rain slowed to a stop about the time the team had gathered at “our spot”. Before the hour was half over, the sun was out and the cobblestones dry. God is so good!
One man approached our table just as the sun broke through the clouds, the light highlighting us and the Rosaries. He seemed struck by the timing and drew a connection between God, the light, and our willingness to serve God. He didn’t come over and choose a Rosary, but may God continue to draw him to the Light of Truth!
A homeless man named “Sylvester” stopped his bike at our table to get a Rosary. He’d gotten one from us before, but no longer had it. We encouraged him to choose another, and then asked if he’d like prayer for anything in particular. He told us about his mother who’d died after suffering for many years from chronic illness. He also told us that he’d been living on the street for three years now, and wanted to find a job and get into housing. He selected a Rosary and we prayed for him before he went on his way. Please pray for Sylvester: for healing from addiction, that he finds meaningful labor at a just and living wage, that finds his way out of homelessness, and that he puts his full trust in Jesus Christ Our Savior.
A slender, extremely soft-spoken woman, perhaps in her upper 30s, stopped at the table to thank us for “doing something positive”. She didn’t take a Rosary, but said she had “been raised Catholic” though now identifies as being a non-Catholic Christian. We told her she’d be welcome back to the Catholic Church and that the Sacraments were still there. She thanked us and, as she was taking her leave, she made the Sign of the Cross followed immediately by an eastern-style pantheistic gesture. Lord, free her from confusion and lead her back home to You!
You may remember the 20-something man who works at the downtown parking garages, identifies as believing in many gods, but picked up a Rosary for his mom or grandma a few weeks ago? He was walking by again, and we asked him if he had passed on that Rosary. He said he did, and she was very thankful. Pray that his family’s witness of faith in Christ will draw him to Jesus, the one true God.
A passing man emphatically rejected our offer of a Rosary and, when we offered him God’s blessing, he rejected that, too, with angry profanity. Pray that his eyes will be opened to the true nature of God and that His goodness, grace, and mercy will soften the man’s heart so he may believe.
Altogether, we gave away another 20-25 Rosaries and its pamphlet, 1-2 Divine Mercy prayer cards, and 1 Our Lady Undoer of Knots prayer card.
Thank you for your prayers and support for our apostolate. Please continue to pray. Ask God to send people to us with their hearts prepared to perceive their need for Our Savior Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church, and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes from today’s efforts. God’s light continues to shine (cf. John 1:5). May He protect and greatly bless you and all those you love!
