This report comes to us from team leader Anne with our St. Christine’s Soup Kitchen team in Detroit, MI:
Met a man with a big furry hat on, and a little tiny scar on his nose. So Mark, while looking at the rosaries on the table and the holy medals, was interested. I asked, “How are you?” and “What happened with that scar on your nose?” He said, “Oh, that! I got hit with a brick.” He pulled his hat up and said, “I got a plastic thing in here, because I got hit with a brick when I was nine years old.” He continued, “I also got stabbed in the back”, and he lifted up his shirt to show me the scar. “And it came out the front!”, and he lifted the front of his shirt to show me the other scar. All of that came just from asking about the scar! And then he said, “And my Achilles is torn!” So he had a lot of things going on. I asked him if he’d like a prayer and he said ok. He said, “Yes, I would like you to pray for me.” Then I asked him if he had any physical pain, and he said yes, in some of the wounds. Before we prayed, I did ask him to go a little deeper into what happened with each of those situations, but he didn’t want to go any further. He said, “I had a good childhood. I had a good life!” During our prayer, we thanked God for the beautiful day and how much Jesus loves him. It was just a beautiful encounter.
Another person we met was sitting at a table, eating his lunch. He was kind of poking around in his dish of pudding, like he didn’t like it that much. I also noticed he had a cane next to him. I went up to him and asked him how his meal was, and he said it was ok, but he didn’t like the pudding that much. I said, I noticed you have a cane. “What’s going on with your leg or hip or whatever?” He said he got hit by a car and they ran over my leg, but didn’t go into it any more than that. Thought I’d hear a little more of the story, but I didn’t. I asked if we could pray about it, and he was happy to receive prayer. So we prayed, and I told him that Jesus protected him during that incident, that only his leg was hurt, not the rest of his body or his head. We finished, and I began to ask him to get up and walk and see how his walking was…but unfortunately, he got a phone call right at that moment, so we couldn’t hear if there was any healing.
Finally, we met a woman who wanted to talk and get some prayer. I asked her what she wanted prayer for, and she just said “life”. So we prayed, and afterwards, she asked me for advice. “Which townhouse do you think I should get, the two bedroom or the three bedroom?” I told her, “let’s pray about that!” So we did, and afterwards she said, “I think I should get the three bedroom, because that’ll be better for my 11 year old son.” I told her that’s great, and then mentioned a sense I was getting during prayer about her “sisters”. So I asked her if she had any sisters, and she said yes, two sisters. She was sad, because she doesn’t get to see them too much, because they are always working. So we prayed that God would help them see each other more often. She then mentioned that she had two brothers also. I told her, “your mom must’ve had her hands full when you were all younger!” She said yes, and then she began to count her own children…the 11 year old son she had already mentioned, and then she said “and the abortion I had when I was 18 or 22, I can’t remember the age. I feel like I was forced into it.” So I told her that God loves her very much, and then we prayed for healing from that experience.
Praised be Jesus Christ!
