This report comes from team leader Anne with the St. Christine Soup Kitchen team in Detroit, MI:
One never knows when a small question can lead into a deeper conversation. I was chatting with a man of about 50 who’d just finished his meal, on his way out, and was coming toward our SPSE table. I noticed a small scar on his nose; it did not look recent but I felt called to ask about it anyway. “So what happened to your nose? I see a small scar.” He immediately pulled back his fuzzy winter hat and replied, “I got hit in the head with a brick when I was 10.” On his head was an indentation, healed over of course since the incident was over 40 years ago. Then the man lifted up his shirt revealing a large scar on his stomach. “I got stabbed in the back and it went all the way through to my stomach.” He then showed me his back scar. Then he said, as he lifted the leg of his pants, “And my Achilles got blown out.” Wow! Lots to pray for! We chatted a bit longer and then prayed for all the areas he’d mentioned. And he did not think he had it rough, as you might think. He finished up with “I’ve had a good life” and had a big smile on his face. We evangelize to share Jesus and during this interaction, I certainly got more than I gave. What a joy-filled attitude he had!
Praised be Jesus Christ!
