The following comes to us from a seminarian from Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans, Louisiana:

After learning the basics of evangelization from Adam, all of the seminarians headed out to Jackson Square (a famous park-like plaza with lots of artists, street performers, etc…right in front of the St. Louis Cathedral.) I talked to one of the artists that was on the fence. He was currently reading a Buddhist book called “The Way of Zen” by Alan Watts. I tried to talk to him about faith, and he started sharing philosophy on me, from Immanuel Kant, Plato, St. Augustine, and Thomas Merton. (Made me wish I had paid more attention in class!) He was all about his own spirituality and just trying to find peace within himself. That being said, he also wanted to reject teachings outside of himself, like churches he didn’t believe in. I asked to pray with him, and he declined. He said that that doesn’t work for him. He said his idea of prayer is different…that even our conversation was actually a prayer. I told him that, in a way, he was right. Just to not disrespect him, I didn’t pray with him right then and there. I kept listening to him, but in my head, I thought “You’re so close. You’re asking deeper questions than anyone in this park right now.” It was an awesome encounter. Let’s pray for this man that he may find the real truth of Jesus and his bride, the Catholic Church.
Praised be Jesus Christ!
