The following story comes to us from Ruben, a St. Paul School of Evangelization student:
Though we have a few one-on-one conversations and even more passersby that ask a quick question or throw a quick comment, a success story is a rarity. One of the more successful encounters I had happened when I met Alex one night with a few drinks in his system. (There are plenty of those people where we set up to evangelize.) He admitted to me that he “fell off the wagon” and was relapsing that night and that he was a lukewarm believer and was feeling convicted. We talked for about 45 minutes, and he told me about his issues with his wife and family and getting his life together. I told him he needed to put trust in Jesus, return to the faith and find fellowship in a church. We prayed and he went his way. Though I wish we could follow up on the people we meet and the deep conversation we have, sometimes it’s not for us to know, and we simply have to let the Spirit guide the person. However, since I first met Alex that night, we’ve met near the same street corner twice. Since then, he got sober and found a church, he even asked me for SPSE pamphlets to pass out to his friends. I realize we are seed sowers but God gives the increase. In this special case, I was able to see the fruit of our work. It’s these rare success stories, these small victories that motivate me to go out and spread the Word.
Praised be Jesus Christ!
