This report comes from evangelist Mark with the National SPSE team in Warren, MI:
Staff from the National SPSE office were invited to evangelize at Wayne State University in Detroit, partially with the intent to invite students to the nearby Catholic campus ministry. Lexa and I went to the Student Center this past Tuesday afternoon and found our table in the middle of the building.
A group of three young women walked down the hallway when one of them saw our “Free Rosary” sign and eagerly approached our table. She immediately began to talk about her love for “Mother Mary” and showed us the small Miraculous Medal that she wore around her neck. I pointed out the larger Miraculous Medals on our table and asked if she was involved in the Catholic student ministry. She said that she was not, so I gave her a card with info for the nearby chapel and invited her to join the WhatsApp group so she could communicate with campus ministry. She said, “It’s been a very religious day” but wouldn’t explain what that meant. Her two friends stood at a distance but were polite and supportive of the young woman. She asked for a Rosary, thanked us for our time, and quickly walked away.
A shy young man glanced at us multiple times and passed by our table several times before he approached us. We offered him a sacramental and offered to pray for him. He asked for prayer, I introduced myself and Lexa, he introduced himelf as Caden. I asked if he wanted anything specific to pray for and he just general prayers. We prayed out loud for Caden, for his studies, his family, and his health—mentally, physically and spiritually. Caden took a couple of pamphlets on sexuality and common objections then silently walked away.
We also had a brief conversation with a young janitor who approached the table. He said that he’s not Catholic but joins the Catholic ministry for some events and he has a particular interest in studying Marian apparitions. He abruptly said that he had to get back to work but it was clear that he was interested in the Catholic Church.
Praised be Jesus Christ!
