The following report comes to us from team leader Lucy in Boise:
Every soul is valuable in God’s eyes. For instance, a homeless man on a bicycle stopped to talk with us. He said he was a Christian and a prophet and spoke about the giants of the Old Testament and how the Bible is based on historical truth. Please pray that he finds freedom from his addictions.
A man named “David,” walking an unruly dog, stopped when he learned we were giving away Rosaries. He said he “used to be an altar boy,” suggesting he had been away from the Faith for some time. While speaking with us in an unusual way, he occasionally struck yoga-like poses as if to emphasize his thoughts. We shared the Gospel with him and gave him a Reasons to Return to the Catholic Church pamphlet. At one point he mockingly referred to the Eucharist as “little bits of bread,” but Chuck explained the Church’s teaching on the Real Presence. Please pray for healing for David and a softening of his heart toward the Church.
Another man briefly left his group to talk with us. Though in a hurry, he listened carefully and admitted he had been thinking about joining the Catholic Church. We gave him a Why Be Catholic? pamphlet and told him when we evangelize there each week. Please pray that he follows the Holy Spirit’s call.
A young woman also stopped for a Rosary. She had grown up in a pseudo-Christian religion but had left it and felt burned out on religion. We explained how the Rosary can help her come to know Jesus and bring her questions to Him in prayer. Please pray that she seeks Christ with an open heart.
Finally, an elderly man told Nancy, “I was Catholic…but now I’m born again.” When the evangelist explained that the Rosary is meditating on the life of Jesus in the Gospels, he seemed surprised. As he held the Rosary and looked through the booklet on how to pray it, he became emotional and repeatedly said, “Thank you so much.” Please pray that this sincere man finds his way home to the Church.
Altogether, we gave away about 35–40 Rosaries, along with Rosary pamphlets, parish maps, a Reasons to Return to the Catholic Church pamphlet, a Why Be Catholic? pamphlet, and an Our Lady Undoer of Knots prayer card. Please continue praying for our team, that God will send people whose hearts are ready to encounter Jesus and His Holy Catholic Church. Victories of the heart can be quiet, but we rejoice whenever we see signs of God’s love at work.
