This report comes to us from team leader Tripp with our new team in Warner Robins, GA:
I attended an SPSE workshop at St. Anne in Columbus, GA this past Saturday. Afterward, some of us went door-to-door evangelizing around the parish. We maybe got three or four houses down the block in a fairly short timespan and had some great encounters. The most notable was when our group knocked on the door and a seven-year-old boy answered. We asked him if anyone was home with him and he responded that his grandma was there. He went to get her and out came an elderly lady who began to tell us a very inspiring story.
She explained to us that she’d been raising him all by herself with no help since both of the boys’ parents were incarcerated, and it was only her and the boy who lived there. Taking care of this young boy by herself is very hard for her because she walked with a cane, but she said she makes it work with the faith she has in God. We asked about her faith and if she had any intentions she would like for us to pray for, and she brought up the life she’s living now alone along with raising the boy. She said that her husband left her and that she chose to not remarry since that would be leading another man into adultery. So she chose to live faithfully even though it would not be convenient. I said that was amazing and took great strength. She said “Well, that’s the scripture.” I told her that’s right, and it’s awesome that you keep God first despite everything. I also told her how I’m very inspired by her and her story since I can relate to it. My grandmother, who I call “Gogi”, lives a similar life. Raising her grandchild, my cousin, and choosing to live alone after her divorce. I told her my Gogi really inspires me and that she also inspires me. We all praised God and gave thanks for our faith and invited her to come to the “Dinner and Doctrine” night this Wednesday at St. Anne. She also expressed interest in getting the boy in the Catholic school run by the parish but was concerned about cost. We assured her that they could possibly make something work if she went and asked. I hope she’s doing well and pray that she finds a home at Saint Anne in Columbus.
Praised be Jesus Christ!
