The following comes to us from store customer Jeanette in Lone Jack, MO:
Rex and I were civilly married nine years before his passing on Nov. 27, 2024. We were both cradle Catholics, but had strayed from the church. We attended Mass a few times while dating and talked about going back full time but it wasn’t until 2023 when he was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer and chronic high blood pressure that we made it back. All at 56 years young. Right away he started searching for our new church home and found it in St. Jude the Apostle in Oak Grove, MO.
With our amazing Fr. Barlett guiding us every step we attended Mass on Sundays and participated in as many church functions as we could. We got to know our new church family and learned how to elevate our relationship with Jesus. We came to learn about the incredible power of Mother Mary’s intercession by committing to a daily Rosary and together we said it every single day. Afterwards, my husband would hold my hands and pray for us out loud while calling on every Saint in his memory to assist. I was always in awe of this.
While trying to get his pressure under control, he started on the anti androgen drugs and prepared for six weeks of radiation for the cancer. While trying to process all of this his mental health began to fail badly and we all became worried. Rex and I never stopped praying the Rosary and soon his first Miraculous Medal (gifted to him by his sister Allison) showed up in the mail. Thank goodness it did because I believe it was the turning point for him and his mental health.
Rex was a video nut and loved YouTube! We did so much research and came to find Gabriel and Frater Giovanni through the Gabi After Hours channel. Once we watched their Miraculous Medal video, Rex knew he had to share these medals. We followed the link to St. Paul Street Evangelization to buy the first medals and it was on! About once a month we’d bring a bunch of medals to church for Father to bless and then we’d give them away. I might mention, Rex was one of the shyest people I’d ever met and would make me do the talking for almost everything. He wasn’t shy about Mary though! He would stop for strangers and homeless etc. to share a medal and a few bucks.
We buried my husband in The Garden of The Immaculate Conception in Kansas City. Such a fitting resting place for one of Mary’s biggest fans. My precious husband Rex. At the time of his passing, he was FULL OF JOY, given to him by our Lord.
Later, when I opened his iPhone, I found some to-do lists, one labeled “Lent ideas”. One of the ideas was to give away 1000 Miraculous Medals. So I went to my priest, and they agreed to help me! We are now well on our way to meeting Rex’s goal of 1000 medals. We post in the bulletin each week how many have been given away and there is a basket in our Narthex with the medals and story. My husband made such a large impact in such a short time. I’m definitely still grieving and missing him so much but helping him live on feels so good.
Praised be Jesus Christ!
Rex was a Godly man that modeled the love of Christ. I will always remember when he gave us our Immaculate medals.
