The following comes to us from team leader Lucy with our team in Boise, ID:
God knows our needs! So, thank you again for your prayers for the Boise Catholic street evangelization effort.
During our previous session, we were sad to find that our supply bag was out of both Bibles and Catechisms. So this week, I brought along one of each. However, when we opened our supply bag to put them in, a pristine copy of each book was already there! Thank you, God! (And after the session, when I went to place the extra books back on the shelf at home, there almost wasn’t room. In other words, those empty spots had also been filled in.) Perhaps this means that more visitors will be needing these books in the upcoming weeks? God is so good!!!
Two groups of three teens stopped at the table, a few minutes apart. The first group was Catholic and already knew about the Rosary. After we set them each up with one, Chuck exhorted them to “pray it together!” The second group were non-Catholic Christians. After hearing the explanation of what the Rosary is, two of them chose one apiece. May God call all of these young people to Himself and a life of holiness!
Towards the end of the session, a man of modest means holding a large envelope stopped for a Rosary. After he chose a Rosary and accepted its pamphlet, he hesitantly asked where the nearest mailbox was so he could post the envelope for his grandmother. I remembered seeing one less than a block away, and told him where it was. He embarrassingly admitted he had difficulty following directions. So, I volunteered to quickly take him there. But when we reached the mailbox, it was covered with graffiti and the pickup time was unreadable. While we’d walked to the mailbox, he explained that he and his grandma lived in the same subsidized apartment building. She’d lost her sight, so he helped her when needed. The paperwork in the envelope was important because her housing depended on it arriving in time. Unsure if the graffiti-covered mailbox was still in service, I led him to the post office four blocks away. Thankfully the lobby door was open. We went in, and he didn’t seem to know what to do, so I pointed out the slot in which to mail large envelopes. After he deposited the envelope safely into the slot, I made it back to our table just before the session ended. May God bless our visitor and his grandmother and provide for their needs. While I didn’t overtly evangelize him, if he ever wonders who we were, perhaps the love he received through the guidance to the post office will echo that quiet hymn: “They’ll know we are Christians by our love.”
Please pray for us today. Ask God to send people to us with hearts prepared to perceive their need for Our Savior Jesus Christ and His Holy Catholic Church, and that much good fruit for His Kingdom comes of today’s efforts.
God is trustworthy and calls all human beings to Himself. So, thank you again for your prayers and other support for this apostolate. In turn, may God protect and greatly bless you and all those you love!
