The following story comes to us from team leader Michael with our team in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan:
Today, Silvia and I went out to the local bus stop to share the Gospel. While the forecast said that the rain had stopped for the day, the sky told a different story. It kept misting, but thankfully Silvia brought a blanket to protect our materials until it stopped.
My first encounter was with Mark, a young man recently released from prison. I gave him a rosary and pamphlet. He was a pretty friendly guy, and was grateful for the sacramental. I asked him if he went to church, and he didn’t currently, although he was raised with the Protestant faith. I reminded him that God loved him, and asked if he prayed. He confirmed that he did. I told him that was very good, and asked if he’d like to pray right now for anything. He said yes, and we prayed for a new life and work, but in the middle of my prayer his bus arrived and he had to run. While I was talking with Mark, Silvia gave a rosary and pamphlet to a woman who gave her some cards with Bible sayings on them and a Jesus Loves You bracelet in return.
Next, we met Danny, who was a practicing Christian. We asked if he needed prayer, and he explained a situation at work where his coworkers were harassing him. One even rubbed dirt all over his coat, so Danny retaliated by pouring bleach on his coworker’s coat. He asked us to pray that God would forgive him, so we did. He seemed stuck on this, and asked me if it’s true that God will actually forgive him, and I said yes, as long as you’re sorry (and don’t do it again.) He said, “You promise?” I said, “Yes, He will forgive you.” He also asked for blessings for health and financial prosperity, so we prayed for that too. Before leaving, I took down his number for possible future communication.
A little later on, we met Madell, an older gentleman who walked with a cane. We asked if we could pray for him, and he said yes, as he fought back tears. He asked for health, blessings, and he took a rosary and pamphlet. He walked away and was grateful and put his rosary over his head as he waited for his bus. Silvia prayed with a bus driver who was getting ready to board his bus. She prayed that God would protect him on his route from accidents and any other trouble, as he was doing an important job getting people where they needed to go.
We’d had all positive encounters up until this point. Then we encountered a gentleman not wearing shoes or socks, who walked up and was using profanity and started grabbing everything on the table. My first impulse was to tell him to put most of it back and only take what he was going to use, but then he started talking about Mother Mary, and asked to take a medal for his son, so we let him take what he had in his hands.
Praised be Jesus Christ!
