The following report comes to us from team leader Sujey with our team in Asheville, NC:
One young Hispanic man approached our table and asked for a rosary. The table was busy, with several people looking through the materials, but I asked him what his favorite color was. He smiled and said blue. I handed him a blue rosary and asked whether he preferred English or Spanish. He told me he spoke mostly Spanish. As we talked, I learned that he didn’t know how to pray the rosary, so I offered to show him. He gladly accepted. During our conversation, I asked where he was from. He told me he lived nearby. When I mentioned a local Catholic church, he seemed surprised and said he didn’t know there was a church so close to him. We spoke briefly about prayer and the comfort that the rosary can bring during tough times. I encouraged him to turn to prayer when he struggles. He listened attentively and seemed genuinely interested in learning more. Before he left, I gave him the church’s Mass times and let him know that our team would continue serving in the area throughout the summer if he ever had questions about the faith.
This encounter stayed with me long after he left. As I spoke with him, I was reminded of my own journey back to God. I saw a young man who seemed hungry for something more, someone searching for hope and direction. His openness to prayer, his willingness to learn, and his interest in the Church were powerful reminders that many souls are quietly searching for God. Encounters like these remind us that evangelization is often not about having all the right answers, but simply being present when someone is ready to take a step toward Christ.
Praised be Jesus Christ!
